Late XIX century - Overview
|
The Lambro valley is one of the earlier industrialized areas in the north of Milano. Around the middle of XIX century many paper mills and textile factories were built along the river. This is one of them, and one of the first. It was founded by the Lebon’s around 1850, on the site of a previous mill. In 1858 it was mentioned in the “Grande Illustrazione del Lombardo-Veneto” (an important essay about northern Italy economy and society) by Cesare Cantù, as a pioneer in the use of cellulose in the papermaking (before, paper was made from rags). In 1890 the mill was acquired by the Villa’s. It was enlarged and modernized. In 1920, one of the first continuous paper making machine in Italy was installed right here. The paper mill was active until 1975. |
